Abstract

         The goal of this project is to research the different lifestyles of individuals with food intolerances and individuals without. Food Intolerances occur in people who are sensitive to certain foods.  They are often mistaken for food allergies, but are different because they do not involve the immune system.  We wanted to investigate more the lifestyles and about what the food industry does for people with food intolerances.  We interviewed two people, one with a food intolerance and one without a food intolerance, in order to contrast the two.  We saw there was a major difference in their thought processes.  From there we decided to delve deeper into the different lifestyles of those with and without a food intolerance.  Therefore, we each decided to keep a food journal because Liz has a food intolerance and Alyssa doesn’t. After keeping our food journal, we wanted to see the difference between a typical food market, and a specialty food store.  We both visited Shoprite and Trader Joe’s.  There we explored the stores for the variety of products offered for people with dairy intolerance.  We also examined their websites to see how much they offered for people with food intolerances.
